I’m in preparation for my annual Open Studio Event. This will be the fifth or sixth year I’ve done this. It's the second year in my new studio location, which is in the garden of my backyard of my new (to us) house. Every single day, if I’m in town, I go to my studio and paint. The light coming through the skylights is amazing. The solitude it provides is nourishing and regulating. The energy of the space is inspiring and supportive. Obviously, I love it.
At this upcoming studio event, I will be sharing a year’s worth of paintings that I’ve made in that studio while exploring abstract painting. I’m discovering what abstract painting looks and feel like for me. I had to teach my brain not to look for imagery. I had to learn again to trust myself and what the painting wants me to know about next steps. I’ve been sharing things on Instagram, but this will be the first time I am inviting people to see all this work I’ve been doing. I’m in this for the painting, but of course I hope my new art is well received. This event is just for my friends, family and followers, so I imagine no one will be hating on the art. It’s a lot of work to get ready for an event like this. Things like this are always stressful for me, because there's so much to do. I have invited four artist friends to bring their work and be part of the show this year, so that adds another layer of complexity to the preparation, but I’m looking forward to it because each year has been fun and the people who do show up are always appreciative. . I have a lot of art to share and it will all be for sale at half my gallery prices, so if you’d like an invitation, contact me for details. |
