When asked how I would describe the art I make in one word, I had to invent a new word: "JOYLEIRDFUL!"
JOY + COLOR + WEIRD = JOYLEIRDFUL That what I am calling this painting. It holds the energy and intention of a rollicking good time! Here are the steps I used to make this painting: 1. I wrote on the blank board -"Let's make something awesome - a rollicking good time!" 2. Brushed on under-layers of yellow, red and blue, drew some lines, and added more layers until I saw her left hand appear and then the heart. At that point I had to look for an arm and body to go with the hand. 3. Once I found the body, I saw the cake, which then needed a table. Once I knew it was my birthday party, all I needed to do with find the hot dogs, and there they were, looking like sideways lavender wands. 4. I slapped a little brown over them and added the buns. Quick - cover the background with different colors! Voila! A hot dog party! She's me, excited for summer and hot dogs and cake. She is also full of enthusiasm for the next batch of paintings that I will be working on that can now be described in one word. It doesn't roll off the tongue really easily, but I love it! |
